International Students

The College of Chicago would like to assist you in all aspects in the application process. In order to become a new student at the COC, please proceed through the following steps.

STEP BY STEP APPLICATION

1. Fill out the following forms on our website or download the application to fill in and send back to us:

2. Submit the following to the COC:

  • Evidence of high school diploma or GED equivalent (Note: ESL Program only).
  • Copy of Passport ID page or government-issued driver’s license.
  • Valid passport with an expiration date no sooner than 6 months following start date.
  • Financial statement (e.g., official bank statement showing sufficient amount to be able to live in the US including tuition and living expense) issued within 6 months (Note: I-20 students only).
  • Non-refundable application fee of $100, I-20 fee $100 for I-20 students. International delivery fee of $100 if applicable. Pay here.
  • Copy of completed Health Record.

3. Receive e-mail notification from the COC to confirm receipt of application and documents:

  • The COC will notify each individual student when the school has received all parts of the application and required documents. This is not an acceptance letter.

4. Receive an admission package from the COC, including admission letter and I-20.

5. Fill out the required forms and apply for an F-1 Visa at the U.S. Embassy in your country:

  • Please go to http://www.usembassy.gov/ and find your home country’s Embassy office locations. Follow the instructions on how to process your visa application. Prepare the required documents for a visa interview, refer to US Embassy’s website for details.

6. Pay SEVIS Fee (I-901)

  • Please go to https://www.fmjfee.com/i901fee/ to pay. Please notice that this fee is not paid to The College of Chicago. After you finish payment, make sure you print the confirmation letter and bring it with you to the visa interview.

Please note that all of the above documents must be properly translated into English by authorized institutions in your home country. Also, you must be eligible to apply for a F-1 visa.
